| Press Release | 2010 2010.10.25 | Exceptional Line-Up for Fall and Winter Hallway Gallery is excited to bring you an exciting fall and early winter line-up. John Rizzotto’s current exhibition of still life works will be up for the duration of October. Exploring the still life tradition has been a mainstay of Rizzotto’s work for years. It is the artist’s unique perspective and willingness to explore most any subject that give his paintings distance from his contemporaries. In arranging his objects Rizzotto becomes less painter and more a visual choreographer. With his adept eye the artist tells the story of light as it moves in, around and off a surface. Whether it is a sleeping bag, a tin mug or a multi-tool the artist’s intention remains focused on composition, light and form. Elise Wagner returns to the gallery in November. Richard Speer of Art Ltd. recently suggested the following… "Between the cartographic gridding, antiquarian touches, and embedded symbology, Wagner's work takes a mystical look back at, rather than a futuristic look ahead toward, the vault of heaven." It goes without saying that Wagner has an aptitude for the stellar, but perhaps the largest gift imparted by the artist is her understanding of her medium. An expert among experts with encaustic paint, Wagner holds little back when creating bold lines, rich color and rich surface texture. Elise Wagner opens November 5th, 2010 at Hallway Gallery. New to the gallery this year is New York artist Michelle Hinebrook. The artist, who’s accomplishments include teaching studio courses at Pratt Institute, has a creative process that requires the use of traditional methods of painting married with digital ones. What in the beginning is more sculptural relief gives way to a tactile surface that evokes a sensual, expressive surface. Her painting style is guided by the preceding step. That is to say that the completed works are instinctual in nature and speak to a certain willingness to be the force behind the painting and not necessarily the steering. In her ability to allow the work in its progress to motivate the end result Hinebrook achieves a truly unique experience for the viewer. Michelle Hinebrook opens December 3rd, 2010 at Hallway Gallery. 2010.07.25 | Moving Right Along... Hallway Gallery currently located in the Bank of America Tower at Bellevue Place is relocating to the former Voletta Couture space located at 800 Bellevue Way NE. The move gives Hallway Gallery an additional 1000 sqft to showcase the acclaimed roster of national and international artists for which the gallery has become known and secures its position as the Eastside’s premier destination for fine art. The gallery will open its doors on July 22nd and complete the current exhibit of San Francisco artist Tracy Taylor Grubbs. On August 6th 2010 the gallery is proud to host its first exhibit in the new space. The featured artist for this exhibit, Gretchen Gammell, who just recently returned form a year-long artist in residence program in France unveils the paintings she completed during her stay. Opening night is August 6th from 5-9PM 2010.05.25 | A New Body of Art June is the one-year anniversary of Hallway Gallery at Bellevue Place and it is only fitting that we host a new body of art from Amy Spassov. The artist has fearlessly explored the possibilities her craft has offered and her 2010 show embodies that fearlessness in a way no other has. In what is sure to be a thrill for current collectors and impossible to deny for new devotees Spassov’s current body of work is a feast for the eye. In a daring maneuver to elevate content and color saturation she has altered her layered surface in a way that words cannot lend justice. See for yourself on June 4th 2010 as we celebrate the first anniversary of the gallery in its current location and usher in the new works of Amy Spassov. 2010.04.01 | May Brings "Urbanesque" Art Hallway Gallery is very excited to present the works of James Key. Key’s show, which runs through the month of May, is Hallway Gallery’s most “urbanesque” show of the year. A combination of digitally manipulated photography and etched and screen printed imagery, Key repurposes the grit of urban decay into cityscapes and landscapes that are as boldly colorful as they are demanding to dissect. His laborious process is presented in a 3-D format that excites the sense of depth in otherwise 2-D work. James Key opens on May 7th 2010. San Francisco based artist Tracy Taylor Grubbs joins the esteemed line-up with her first show at Hallway Gallery. Grubbs work speaks to the temporary or “impermanence” as she refers to it, of the stuff of life. Her paintings are visual reminders of the fleeting nature of all things. In a most sincere way her paintings often hold a quietness that begs the viewer to revel in an object or view as it diminishes from their presence. Hallway Gallery is pleased to present these new works by Tracy Taylor Grubbs on July, 2nd 2010. 2010.02.03 | Spring Art A new decade has arrived and so have a few new artists. Hallway Gallery is pleased to welcome newcomers to the gallery Tracy Taylor Grubbs, Gerard Cambon, John Rizzotto, and Cynthia Fusillo and Eileen P. Goldenberg. Tracy Taylor Grubbs is a San Francisco based artist with work centered on the exploration of form and space. Using everyday objects and the idea that those objects are impermanent, Grubbs dissolves her foregrounds into her background bringing attention to the fleeting nature that all things possess. Gerard Cambon is a Paris, France based sculptor. Using mostly found objects from his family’s farm is rural France, Cambon repurposes these parts into “locomobiles” and bas-reliefs that speak to a darker story of ebb and flow or tension and release with a whimsical nature capturing childlike ideology. John Rizzotto is a contemporary American realist painter working in the still-life tradition. His carefully composed arrangements of natural and everyday objects hark back to the Spanish and Northern European masters, while keeping a contemporary sensibility. Always painting from life, Rizzotto's primary concerns are capturing light and form, and exploring the endless possibilities of composition. Cynthia Fusillo is a Barcelona, Spain based artist. A well-established poet, Fusillo’s words augment her paintings with a challenge to the viewer to find new imaginings. Using an adept process of incising words on the painterly surface, her work is a clear indication of her intense interest in blending the written word, pattern and nature. Eileen P. Goldenberg is a California based encaustic painter and ceramicist and will be kicking off the solo exhibit season at Hallway Gallery. Her work is a blend of perhaps meditation and excavation in that the imagery was born out of traditions within the Japanese Tea Ceremony. In completing her vision Goldenberg scrapes back or “excavates” the surface to reveal her translucent image. Look for Eileen P. Goldenberg at Hallway Gallery opening April 2nd, 2010. And look for all of our gallery artists throughout 2010 as we usher in an exciting and ambitious 2010 solo exhibit schedule. |
